What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a doctor supervised treatment program developed to improve fundamental visual skills. An Optometrist performs an in-depth evaluation to assess how the eyes function, in order to identify any potential vision-related deficiencies.

Vision therapy can be prescribed to enhance visual abilities and improve the brain’s ability to control eye alignment, eye teaming, eye focusing abilities, eye movements, and visual processing.

Our therapy program is individualized to address visual-motor or perceptual-cognitive insufficiencies using lenses, prisms, and specialized equipment.

Who is Vision Therapy For?

Vision therapy can be effective for both children and adults. Visual skills that can be enhanced include, but are not limited to: eye-teaming and hand-eye coordination, focusing ability, eye movement accuracy, depth perception, and visual information processing.

Training these skills can be advantageous and transferable to many aspects of life, including sports. Additionally, specific vision problems such as amblyopia (“lazy eye”) and strabismus (“eye turn”), or patients with a history of brain injury can also benefit from vision therapy.

Kennedy Eye Clinic is happy to refer out for vision therapy for those requiring assistance with visual and/or visual motor skills. Please contact our office for more information.
